Recruitment Masterclass: Stop Hiring Based on Gut Feel

What Does a Strong Hire Actually Look Like?
A strong hire does not begin with a good interview. It begins with knowing exactly who the organisation needs and what success in the role should look like.

Better hiring begins with being clear about what good looks like.

On 4 and 5 June 2026, Job Majestic’s Recruitment Masterclass guided business owners, HR leaders, department heads and hiring managers through a more structured approach to making hiring decisions.

Led by Jess, People and Talent Strategist, the two-day programme focused on Leadership DNA and competency-based hiring. Participants explored how to define clearer job expectations, assess behavioural evidence and build a consistent hiring framework across different roles and departments.

Clarity Before Recruitment Begins
One common reason companies make the wrong hire is not always a lack of suitable talent. In many cases, the hiring team has not clearly agreed on what it is looking for before recruitment begins.

When HR, department leaders and management have different expectations, interviews can easily depend on personal preference or gut feeling. A candidate may perform well during the interview but still struggle to match the role, leadership style or working culture after joining.

Participants were encouraged to look beyond job titles and qualifications. They examined what strong performance looks like in each role, which behaviours are required and how every hiring decision influences the wider team culture.

Connecting Culture, Leadership and Role Clarity
The first day focused on culture, leadership and role clarity.

Through the Leadership DNA Assessment, participants identified leadership strengths, working patterns and expectations that could guide future hiring decisions. They also worked on clearer role scopes, success profiles and job descriptions that better reflected the organisation’s actual needs.

The discussion also highlighted the difference between the culture a company intends to build and the behaviours that happen in reality.

Hiring With Evidence
The second day moved into practical hiring application.

Participants explored the 3C approach of Character, Competency and Compatibility, followed by structured interview and evaluation practices that support more consistent decision-making.

Instead of relying mainly on personality or first impressions, they learned how to assess candidates through behavioural evidence and ask questions that reveal how someone has handled real situations.

The programme also covered recruitment workflow design and workforce planning, helping participants connect each stage of hiring—from defining the need to assessing candidates and planning their first 30 days.

Rather than sitting through theory alone, participants applied the frameworks to their own hiring situations through role-clarity exercises, interview practice, case discussions and group sharing.

Better Hiring Starts With Better Questions
The room also addressed common hiring challenges.

Why do different interviewers evaluate the same candidate differently? Why do promising hires sometimes struggle after joining? How can HR and department leaders agree on what they are truly looking for?

By the end of the two days, participants left with clearer hiring criteria, a more structured interview approach and a practical hiring plan they could begin applying immediately.

At Job Majestic, we believe better hiring is not about finding the perfect candidate through luck. It comes from setting clear expectations, asking better questions and building a process that helps the right people make better decisions.

When an organisation is clear about what good looks like, finding the right talent becomes much more achievable.
